In this moving narrative of resilience and pure love, three mothers share their experiences and learnings about life alongside autism — From the creators of Finding Cooper’s Voice, What Color is Monday?, and Tales of an Educated Debutante

Kate Swenson, Adrian Wood and Carrie Cariello are from different parts of the country and backgrounds, but they were brought together by a singular experience: they are each a mother to a child with autism. Together they have shared laughter, tears, victories and the unconditional love that molds their lives.

Kate, Adrian and Carrie have children with very different autism profiles, and in Autism Out Loud they write about their unique experiences on a variety of topics, from diagnosis to caregiving, schooling and aging. Through their varied stories and lessons they’ve learned, these incredible women provide a glimpse of what to expect on the autism journey and show parents that they are not alone.

Written with honesty and heart, the stories within these pages serve as a reminder that even amid the storms of life, there is always hope and beauty to be found. A tribute to the unparalleled love of mothers, this inspiring book illuminates the joys, challenges and everyday miracles of life on the spectrum.

This book is just amazing. Thank you so much for writing books for families like mine. This is my second book by Kate and each one makes me cry, from sadness but also because we’re not alone. This book addresses families that have a member that falls in multiple places “on the spectrum.” Representation matters and this book covers quite a bit.

Autism Out Loud is a wonderful book. I personally do not have a child with Autism, I did however work with children on the spectrum at a school where I live. You don’t always get to talk directly to their parents and following these three ladies has been an eye opener. They are 3 different stories but all with the goal in mind. I highly recommend this book!! Whether you are touched by Autism or not it is a wonder story of 3 beautiful boys and their families.

Fantastic book! Insightful book that looks at autism from the view of three moms. This is the book you have been looking for all along. It is a book that you can read all at once, just a chapter that you might need to really need some help with at the moment like grief or siblings. It is a manual yet it is so personal as you read the struggles and the victories of theses families and Cooper, Amos and Jack. This book is for teachers, parents, grandparents, friends, anyone. I think it is a piece of art. It is going to be a game changer!

Very informative book. It is a great book on autism especially for those of us who know someone who has autism. Our family has 3 autistic boys (2 different sets of parents) and each boy is special. The 10yr and 6yr old twins are very smart and sweet. But their talents, behaviors and how they function are different. But we couldn’t see these boys any other way. So happy these 3 gals came together to write this book with their first hand experiences!
